The conflict in Ukraine cannot be resolved by military means, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on September 23 at the opening of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

"Everyone already understands that there will be no military solution to the conflict [in Ukraine]," he said.

According to the Brazilian leader, the recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American Leader Donald Trump in Alaska has raised hopes for a negotiated settlement of the conflict.
