Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has extended the production shutdown until October 1 due to cyber attacks. This is stated in a statement by the British automaker (owned by the Indian Tata Group) on September 23.

The company said that they are building a timetable for a phased resumption of operations and are continuing to investigate the incident together with cybersecurity specialists and law enforcement agencies.

According to Reuters, before the cyberattack, three JLR plants in the UK were producing about 1,000 cars per day, and a production shutdown would result in the loss of tens of millions of pounds. Many of its 33,000 employees were forced to go idle.

It is not yet known who is responsible for the hacking. It is noted that it was preceded by serious attacks on large British enterprises, including Marks & Spencer and Co-op. In both cases, hackers tried to extort money, the BBC reported. The disruption of production due to the cyber incident was first reported by JLR on September 2.

Earlier, on August 27, it was reported that Land Rover introduced a special version of the Defender SUV, which was named the Churchill Edition. It is dedicated to former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and his personal Land Rover Series I car. The Defender will have a circulation of 10 copies.
