Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov held talks with the Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Republic of Nicaragua, Julio Cesar Aviles Castillo. This was announced by the Russian Defense Ministry on September 23.
"Russian-Nicaraguan military cooperation is time-tested. It is based on the principles of trust, friendship, mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests. A lot of joint work has been done in this direction," the department wrote on its Telegram channel.
It is reported that during the meeting, issues of cooperation between the defense departments of Russia and Nicaragua, as well as topical aspects of regional security, were discussed.
The parties greeted each other. Belousov congratulated the members of the Nicaraguan delegation on the 46th anniversary of the formation of the Nicaraguan army and Independence Day of the Republic. In addition, the Minister noted the participation of the Nicaraguan military delegation in the joint strategic exercise Zapad-2025, which took place from September 12 to 16.
Earlier, on September 18, Belousov discussed promising areas of cooperation with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, General Christopher Gwabin Musa. It is noted that Belousov also thanked the members of the Nigerian delegation for the participation of the country's military in the joint strategic exercise Zapad-2025 as observers.
