Nvidia announced plans to invest up to $100 billion in AI startup OpenAI
US chipmaker Nvidia plans to invest up to $100 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) startup OpenAI under a new agreement. This was announced on September 22 on the company's website.
"Nvidia intends to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI as new Nvidia systems are deployed," the publication says.
It is specified that the deal involves the creation of data centers with a capacity of up to 10 gigawatts, which will run on Nvidia graphics processors.
According to the company, such a solution will allow OpenAI to scale the training and implementation of its models, including ChatGPT, which is used by about 700 million people every week. The first stage is planned to be launched in the second half of 2026 using the Nvidia Vera Rubin platform.
According to Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, computing infrastructure will become "the backbone of the economy of the future," and the product created jointly with Nvidia will be used "both to create new breakthrough AI solutions and to empower people and businesses with their help on a large scale."
Earlier, on September 19, Reuters reported that Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) developer DeepSeek announced spending only $294,000 on training its R1 model, which is significantly less than the costs of American competitors. It is specified that 512 Nvidia H800 chips were used to train the reasoning-oriented R1 model.
