- The Federation Council demanded to provide data on the alleged violation of Russian airspace
Estonia's statements about the alleged penetration of Russian fighter jets into the country's airspace require investigation. Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, expressed this opinion on Monday, September 22, commenting on the statement by Estonian diplomat Jonathan Vsevolod that the republic has evidence of a violation of Russian airspace.
"Serious people support such statements with a special investigation, and loud statements over a megaphone contribute absolutely nothing except to incite emotional passions, hatred and, in a word, suspicion. Therefore, seriously, if we need to figure it out, let's present the relevant records," the senator said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Earlier in the day, Vsevolod said that Estonia has irrefutable evidence of an alleged violation of Russian airspace, RT reports. According to the diplomat, not only the republic has such evidence, but also all of its allies. However, Vsevolod did not specify which materials were presented to confirm the charges.
In turn, the first deputy permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, pointed out at a meeting of the UN Security Council that Estonia had no evidence that would confirm the violation of the republic's airspace by the Russian side, writes Moscow 24.
On September 19, the Estonian Foreign Ministry accused Russia of allegedly having three MiG-31 fighter jets invade the country's airspace. At the same time, the head of diplomacy of the European Union (EU), Kaya Kallas, said that she was in contact with Tallinn. At the same time, Estonia requested consultations from NATO member countries in connection with the incident, NSN reports. At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry denied the violation of Estonian airspace by Russian aircraft.
Later, on September 22, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the words of the Estonian authorities about Russia's alleged violation of the country's airspace were empty and aimed at exacerbating tensions in the region.
