The State Duma proposed to include HPV vaccination in the vaccination calendar
Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) has been proposed to be included in the national vaccination calendar; currently, the procedure is available under compulsory medical insurance (CHI) only in certain regions. This was announced on September 22 by State Duma deputy, member of the Health Committee Yulia Drozhzhina in an interview with Life.ru .
"In Russia, any vaccination can be legally refused. But the national calendar has been compiled by experts to protect both the person and his environment. It would be great if the HPV vaccine were included," Drozhzhina said.
According to the deputy, vaccination is most effective at the age of 11-12 years, it reduces the risk of infection and the development of cancer. In addition, according to her, vaccination can be useful for adults under 45 years of age, reducing the risk of infection with new types of the virus and the likelihood of relapses.
Earlier, on August 18, oncogynecologist at SM Clinic Radmir Akhmerov said that HPV is considered by gynecologists as one of the key factors contributing to the development of oncological diseases, primarily cervical cancer. According to doctors, up to 80% of sexually active women become infected with this virus at least once in their lives.
