Residents of Irkutsk region gave fraudsters 14 million rubles
Over the past three days, 16 people have been injured as a result of fraud in the Irkutsk region. The total amount of damage amounted to 14 million rubles.
In Bratsk, a 67-year-old teacher was called by scammers on behalf of the delivery service. They asked me to name the code from the SMS message allegedly for receiving the parcel. Soon, the scammers called back and stated that the woman's account on the Gosuslugi portal had allegedly been hacked. The Siberian woman followed the instructions of the scammers and transferred more than 6.1 million rubles to outside accounts.
Four more people were injured due to non-existent sellers on marketplaces, IrkutskMedia news agency writes. The total amount of damage exceeded 660 thousand rubles. Another 1.1 million rubles were given to the scammers by a 47-year-old resident of Bratsk, who wanted to make money on investments.
In the Lipetsk region, a 24-year-old woman gave 1.68 million rubles to fraudsters. The scammers convinced the victim to transfer the savings to a "secure account."
