In Britain, doctors mistook a woman's cancer symptoms for an anxiety disorder.
In the UK, doctors mistook the symptoms of thyroid cancer in 30-year-old Tameika McBride for an anxiety disorder. This was reported by the Mirror newspaper on September 22.
"I went to the doctor about my symptoms, and they told me that it was just anxiety, and that the blood tests were in order. But [the symptoms] didn't bother me, and overall I was happy, so I kind of accepted that my well—being was normal," the publication quotes the woman as saying.
It is clarified that McBride suffered from symptoms back in 2015. Later, in August 2023, six weeks after the birth of her son, she noticed an increase in her thyroid gland for the first time and went to the doctor, who referred the woman to the emergency room.
In 2024, the situation repeated itself: McBride discovered an enlarged lymph node on the left side of her neck and went to the doctor again. The woman stressed that the doctor considered it "innocent and advised her to return if the problem persists."
Two months later, McBride had an ultrasound scan, and the very next day they announced that she had thyroid cancer. She is currently continuing treatment.
The Daily Mail newspaper reported on September 3 that British Maeve Fanning considered a dry cough to be a consequence of a cold, and later learned that it was a symptom of blood cancer. It was clarified that at first the woman complained of an upset stomach, heaviness in the stomach and lack of appetite. After the tests, the woman was diagnosed with thymoma, a tumor of the thymus gland.
