Right-hand drive cars are a part of everyday life for residents of Siberia and the Far East, and it is not worth purposefully abandoning the use of such cars in Russia. This opinion was expressed by Nikolai Novichok, a member of the State Duma Committee on the Development of the Far East and the Arctic.

"Let's leave people alone. Let them drive and earn money, <...> take their families, go to work, on vacation. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with right-hand drive cars. <...> I do not know and have not seen those studies that right-hand drive cars are more dangerous and more emergency-intensive on the roads. In my opinion, there is no confirmation of this factor," Novichkov was quoted as saying by TASS on September 22.

The deputy pointed out that when discussing the issue of abandoning the use of right-hand drive cars in the regions of Siberia and the Far East, social tension arises. The parliamentarian noted that he is developing his own car industry, so over time there will be fewer right-hand drive cars in the country.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Russia had proposed to gradually replace cars with right-hand drive in the country "with safer vehicles." This initiative was made by the head of the Economic Committee of the Federation Council, Andrei Kutepov. He has prepared an appeal addressed to the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.

Measures to replace such machines are called "regulatory/restrictive" in the letter. To replace right-hand drive cars, the Federation Council proposes to encourage citizens with state subsidy programs.
