The youngest daughter of writer Mikhail Sholokhov has died.
Maria Sholokhova, the youngest daughter of writer Mikhail Sholokhov, died at the age of 87. This was announced on September 22 in the VKontakte social network of the State Museum-Reserve "Quiet Don" named after the writer.
"It was with pain that we learned that Maria Mikhailovna Sholokhova, the youngest daughter of the great writer, has passed away," the message says.
Maria Mikhailovna was born in 1938 in the village of Vyoshenskaya and was the youngest of the writer's four children. In 1971, she graduated from the Philological Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), after which she worked as an editor at Sovremennik publishing house, as well as literary secretary of the Board of the USSR Writers' Union.
She was one of the founders and researchers of the M. A. Sholokhov State Museum-Reserve in Vyoshenskaya, where she edited the last lifetime edition of her father's collected works and restored other manuscripts of the writer.
The museum staff expressed their deep condolences to the family and friends of Maria Sholokhova. They reported that the farewell to the writer's daughter will take place at Mikhail Sholokhov's Estate on September 23 from 10.00 to 12.00.
