There were 669 road accidents in Russia over the weekend.

Over the past weekend, 669 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 97 people were killed and 810 injured. 78 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on September 22 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

31 bus accidents were recorded, in which three people were killed, and another 30 road users, including four children, required medical attention. 22 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 130 accidents involving pedestrians, 19 people were killed, and 117 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 22 young pedestrians, 14 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in unintended places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 42 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 88 outside their area of operation.

On the territory of one of the garden non-profit associations of the Voronezh region, a 42-year-old passenger car driver lost control and drove off the road, after which he ran over a 30-year-old female pedestrian, who was on the right shoulder after crossing the roadway. The pedestrian died.

90 accidents involving minors were also registered, 109 young road users were injured, including 60 passengers, four cyclists and 17 motor transport drivers. One child passenger was killed.

So, in the Oryol region, in the morning, on 157 km of the federal highway R-92 Kaluga — Peremyshl – Belev – Orel, a 55-year-old crossover driver was distracted from driving by a child in the back seat and drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with another passenger car. After that, the car of the culprit of the car accident went off the road and overturned.

As a result of the accident, the driver and two passengers of the crossover were killed, including a 10-year-old schoolboy who was transported without a child restraint and using a seat belt. The driver and two passengers of the second vehicle, including a five-year-old boy who was in the back seat in a restraint and was wearing a seat belt, were injured and, after receiving medical attention, were sent for outpatient treatment.

The head of the Russian State Traffic Inspectorate, Mikhail Chernikov, in an interview with Izvestia, spoke about how the new national project will reduce accidents on the roads.

According to operational data from the State Traffic Inspectorate, in the three weeks of September 2025, 1,223 accidents involving minors under the age of 16 occurred in the Russian Federation, in which 24 children were killed and 1,368 injured. The State Traffic Inspectorate recalled that one of the most vulnerable categories among underage road users are child passengers. When driving in a car with a child, it is important for drivers to choose a safe driving style. Sudden maneuvers and lane changes should be avoided. First of all, we are talking about overtaking, involving driving into the oncoming lane: even where it is allowed by traffic regulations, there remains a risk of an emergency due to violations or inattention of another driver, the department stressed.

"We urge motorists to strictly follow the rules of the road and always be careful behind the wheel, without being distracted from driving by extraneous actions or conversations. Remember that the life and health of your passengers depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior of the driver. We also pay attention to the strict observance of the rules for the safe transportation of children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for the Promotion of road safety and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

You can not be fined for driving: exceptions may be made for child seats

They plan to release drivers from liability if it is impossible to transport a child according to the rules.

Earlier, on September 17, it was reported that the number of road accidents in Moscow in the first eight months of 2025 decreased by 8% compared to the same period last year. The number of deaths in accidents decreased by 29%.
