The court confirmed Amirkhanyan's arrest in the case of the murder of ex-MP Kiva
The Moscow Regional Court has rejected an appeal against the arrest of businessman Araik Amirkhanyan, who is being investigated for the murder of former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ilya Kiva. This was reported on September 22 by a correspondent of Izvestia.
Speaking in court, the businessman pleaded not guilty. Amirkhanyan stated that he was in custody at the time of Kiva's murder.
"He was my friend, I couldn't do that," the businessman explained, claiming that the case against him was fabricated and they wanted to make him a "scapegoat."
Amirkhanyan's lawyer noted that his client did not use his phone during his detention, as it was forbidden. He added that only one of his four cellmates allegedly confirmed that the businessman had a means of communication.
Other defense representatives stated that the investigation has no real evidence of Amirkhanyan's involvement in the murder. In their opinion, the preventive measure in the form of detention should be abolished.
