Sobyanin spoke about the construction of the Biryulevskaya metro line

Construction of the Biryulevskaya metro line has begun in Moscow, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said in his blog. The length of the branch line will be 22.2 km with 10 stations and transfers to the Zamoskvoretskaya, Troitskaya and Bolshaya Koltsevaya lines, the Moscow Central Ring, as well as the Paveletsky direction of the Moscow Railway.

As a result, the metro will come to two large districts — Biryulyovo Vostochnoye and Biryulyovo Zapadnoye, the mayor emphasized. In addition, the new line will improve transport services in the Danilovsky, Nagatinsky Zaton, Nagatino-Sadovniki, Pechatniki, Moskvorechye-Saburovo and Tsaritsyno districts. According to Sobyanin, about a million Muscovites live in these areas in total.

"Many of them will receive subway stations within walking distance for the first time. For others, alternative, faster and more convenient metro travel options will appear," the mayor wrote on his blog.

Currently, three stations are under construction — ZIL, Island of Dreams, and Klenovy Boulevard. Seven more stations of the future line — Kuryanovo, Moskvorechye, Kavkazsky Bulvar, Kaspiyskaya, Lipetsk, Lebedyanskaya, Biryulyovo — are in the design.

Specialists are also building a new electric depot to service the rolling stock of the future metro line. It will be located in the Biryulyovo Zapadnoye district on a plot of over 15.6 hectares and will include 14 buildings and structures. Sobyanin noted that this would not only create conditions for train maintenance and comfortable rest for drivers, but would also provide new employment opportunities for local residents.

In June, the construction of the right tunnel started between the stations "Island of Dreams" and "Klenovy Boulevard" on the Biryulevskaya line of the Moscow metro. Construction of the left tunnel will begin in the coming months. Sobyanin noted that the Biryulevskaya line will be launched in stages. In 2028, work is planned to be completed on the ZIL— Kuryanovo section, and in 2030 on the Kuryanovo — Biryulyovo section.
