During anti-corruption protests in the Philippines, 216 people were arrested, including minors, The Manila Times reported, citing data from the country's Interior Ministry.

"216 people, including minors, were arrested for setting cars on fire, throwing rocks and molotov cocktails, and looting a nearby motel," the article says.

The head of the country's interior ministry, Juanito Remulla, called the protesters "anarchists." He compared the riots to violent protests in Nepal and Indonesia.

According to the minister, those protesters who threw molotov cocktails at police officers may be charged with attempted murder. Remulla stressed that the police "did not use firearms" during the clashes.

Earlier, on September 21, in Lima, the capital of Peru, representatives of the younger generation staged mass riots during anti-government protests. The rallies are held under the slogan "Generation Z against President Dina Boluarte." The participants oppose the reform of the pension system, and also demand more transparent work of the government and parliament of the country. They also support animal rights and environmental initiatives.
