Russian doctor dispels myths about IVF and its consequences
There are many myths surrounding in vitro fertilization (IVF). Gunai Salayeva, a reproductive therapist and obstetrician-gynecologist, told Gazeta about this on September 22.Ru».
"One of the most persistent myths is the guaranteed success of IVF. Unfortunately, this is far from the case. The effectiveness of the procedure depends on many factors: the age of the woman, the quality of the partner's seminal fluid, the condition of the endometrium, and even lifestyle," the doctor explained.
Salaeva also noted that children born after IVF are no different from those conceived naturally, and the myth that the procedure always leads to multiple pregnancies is outdated: modern protocols involve the transfer of a single embryo, which reduces the risk of complications.
"IVF is not a threat to a woman's health or a sentence. Modern methods make it possible to control hormonal changes and minimize possible risks," the specialist emphasized.
The doctor also added that the procedure can indeed be expensive, but today there are public and private support programs that make IVF more affordable.
Earlier, on September 19, it was reported that one in ten women of reproductive age is faced with endometriosis, a disease that often disguises itself as ordinary painful periods. According to gynecologist Sabina Khanmirzoeva, the disease can lead to infertility and disability, and the diagnosis is often made only 7-10 years after the first symptoms. She stressed the importance of early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment, including drug therapy and surgery.
