Axios reported on Trump's meeting with Arab leaders at the UN General Assembly
US President Donald Trump plans to meet with a group of Arab and Muslim leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss ways to end the war in Gaza. This was announced on September 21 by the Axios portal.
The White House has already sent invitations to the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey. According to sources, Washington intends to discuss the participation of these countries in the post-war plan for Gaza, including the possible dispatch of stabilization forces.
"Arab leaders want Trump to put pressure on [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu wants him to end the war in Gaza and abandon the annexation of the West Bank," one of the interlocutors told Axios.
Separately, the president will hold a meeting with leaders of the Persian Gulf countries, where the topic of the Israeli strike on representatives of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas in Qatar will be raised — the first such attack in the region.
Earlier in the day, Hamas stated that recognizing the statehood of Palestine is an important step to confirm the right of the country's citizens to their land. As the BBC TV channel quoted, recognition is necessary to create its own independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
