The Russian Ministry of Health has made a proposal to transfer information about combat veterans and their family members to the Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund (FMS) and territorial funds for targeted support of these citizens. This was announced on September 21 in the press service of the department.

"The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has prepared a draft law providing for the provision of relevant information from a single centralized digital platform in the social sphere to the Federal Medical Insurance Fund and territorial compulsory Medical Insurance funds," TASS reports.

It is noted that according to the current law, there is no mandatory mechanism that would allow targeted medical insurance for veterans and their family members, as they are not separated into separate categories of insured persons — "combat veteran" or "family member of a combat veteran." The adoption of such a rule will provide these persons with the necessary benefits and social support measures.

Russian President Vladimir Putin noted on September 10 that attention to the veteran of a special military operation (SVO) is not a fashion, but a tribute from the state. He noted that attention to veterans should be on an ongoing basis, as these are people who stood up to defend their homeland.

On August 28, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that the Russian government had prepared a draft on granting veteran status to volunteers who had signed an agreement with the Russian Ministry of Defense from October 2022 to September 2023, and appropriate social guarantees had also been provided. Now each of them will have the opportunity to apply for the status of a combat veteran or disabled person.
