- The media learned about UEFA's intention to suspend Israel from tournaments due to the situation in Gaza.
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) may decide to suspend Israeli clubs and the national team from participating in tournaments under its auspices. This was reported on September 21 by Israel Hayom, citing sources.
It is noted that the issue of banning Israeli football players from playing may be decided at a meeting of the organization's executive committee on Tuesday, September 23.
At the same time, Qatar is known to put pressure on the association and the members of the executive committee, the vast majority of whom support the exclusion of Israel. However, UEFA is counting on the support of key allies in blocking this decision, in particular Germany and Hungary.
"The Football Association believes that Germany and Hungary will help block Qatar's initiative to oust Israel this week," the portal notes.
On September 19, the Italian Association of Coaches (AIAC) sent a letter to the President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), Gabriele Gravina, calling on UEFA and the International Football Federation (FIFA) to suspend Israel from international competitions.
On August 14, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, also called on UEFA to suspend Israel from tournaments. The statement came after the news of the death of former Palestinian national football team player Suleiman Al-Obeid, who died in an Israeli attack on civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip on August 13.
