- Sohu pointed to the dissatisfaction of the EU and the United States over the Poland-China cooperation deal
Representatives of the European Union (EU) and the United States were unhappy with the conclusion by Poland and China of an agreement on the export of Chinese goods from rare earth metals (REM). This was reported on September 19 by the Sohu portal.
"This news immediately attracted widespread international attention. The EU and the United States reacted violently, and a number of leading Western media outlets wondered why Poland had received such a significant opportunity for cooperation," the publication says.
Poland has become the first country to conclude a cooperation agreement with China in the field of rare earth metals. The favorable geographical location of the country is also noted.
"Poland has a double value for Chinese companies: it serves both as a gateway to the European market and as a key hub connecting the logistics networks of Eastern and Western Europe," the authors of the material explained.
The deal was announced after the completion of the official visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Poland.
On September 17, it was reported that the EU may impose new restrictions against Chinese companies as part of the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions. Brussels sees this move as an attempt to attract the attention of US President Donald Trump and convince him to increase pressure on Russia. However, as the newspaper points out, even the expansion of the sanctions list on Chinese companies does not meet Trump's requirement to impose 50-100% duties on imports from China.
