Cinematographer Yuri Shaygardanov has died.

Yuri Akhtyamovich Shaigardanov, cinematographer, Honored Artist of Russia, member of the Union of Cinematographers, died at the age of 72. This was announced on September 20 on the website of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia.

Shaigardanov was born in 1954 and graduated from the VGIK Faculty of Cinematography in the workshop of Vadim Yusov. Since the late 1980s, he has worked at Lenfilm, collaborating with leading Russian directors. Among his works are "The Heart of a Dog" by Vladimir Bortko, "The Land of the Deaf" by Valery Todorovsky, "Magnetic Storms" by Vadim Abdrashitov, "Once upon a Time there was a Woman" and "The Frenchman" by Andrei Smirnov.

In 1993, Shaigardanov became one of the founders of the Association of Russian Cinematographers, and also taught at the St. Petersburg State Institute of Film and Television. He was the winner of the White Square Award, and in 2025 he was awarded for his contribution to the art of cinematography named after Sergei Urusevsky.

"To say that we are grieving is not enough. We are grieving this common grief," the message says.
