Mike Waltz, former national security adviser to US President Donald Trump, has officially assumed the post of US representative to the United Nations (UN). This was announced on September 20 by the press service of the diplomatic mission.

"Congratulations, Mr. Ambassador! Mike Waltz was sworn in as the 32nd U.S. representative to the United Nations on Saturday morning at the U.S. State Department in Washington," the statement said.

Waltz's candidacy for this post was approved by the U.S. Senate a day earlier. According to the results of the vote, which was broadcast by the C-Span TV channel, 47 senators voted in support. 43 people spoke out against it.

On September 17, Reuters reported that the U.S. Senate had approved Waltz's candidacy for the position of the country's permanent representative to the United Nations. For this purpose, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee considered 36 candidates. It was noted that the voting took place along party lines.
