There are plans to build 239 bridges and 180 km long overpasses on the Moscow—St. Petersburg high-speed railway (HSR). This was announced on September 20 at the highway information center.

"The project provides for 239 bridges and flyovers with a total length of 180 km. The longest flyover of 14 km will be built in the St. Petersburg area. 32-meter beams weighing 700 tons have been developed for bridge crossings, which significantly exceeds the parameters of standard structures in road construction," the information center noted.

To date, more than 7 thousand people and 3 thousand pieces of equipment are involved in the facilities. Builders are engaged in the relocation of access roads, the transfer of utilities and the construction of towns to accommodate up to 20 thousand specialists. Currently, active construction and installation work is underway at the seventh stage in the Moscow region.

The project has a high technical complexity due to the terrain and geology of the route with weak marshy soils. It is noted that in order to strengthen the roadbed, it is planned to install over 1 million piles with a total length of about 12 thousand km. Along the highway, work is also underway to create a production base.

Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Vitaly Saveliev, Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov and Head of the National Project Construction Group Alexey Krapivin visited the facilities along the route of the future high—speed railway.

"Only a few countries can build high-speed railways, and Russia will be a special country among them. No high-speed road is being built this far north, because completely new solutions are being applied here. The key word of construction, in addition to time as a key characteristic of the HSR, is accuracy. It is critically important to ensure that there are no vibrations or any fluctuations at this speed," Nikitin said.

In addition, exploratory work is being carried out in preparation for construction. During searches in the Novgorod region, the remains of three Red Army soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War and a personal signed soldier's spoon of a native of the Kazakh SSR were found on the territory of the future construction of the high-speed railway.

"The Moscow—St. Petersburg HSR project is under special government control. Today's inspection showed that the work was organized properly. There are still many difficult tasks ahead, but a solid foundation is already being created to solve them. We will continue the practice of regular visits to construction sites to monitor the status and quality of work," Saveliev stressed.

Earlier, on September 16, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin set aside six months to work out a model for the development of the HSR. According to him, after the proposal should be presented to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In early September, preparations for the creation of a high-speed railway between Moscow and St. Petersburg were discussed at a meeting on the implementation of the project. One of the main tasks was the construction of the first Russian high-speed train, the production of which began at the plant in Verkhnyaya Pyshma. Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Saveliev said that according to the schedule, 28 high-speed trains will be built and put into operation by 2028.
