The US Department of War is tightening the rules of the press, requiring journalists to refrain from using information without the official approval of the American authorities. This was reported on September 20 by The New York Times (NYT).

"Information must be approved for public release by a relevant authorized official before it is released, even if it is not classified," the material says.

Journalists will also be prohibited from freely moving around the Pentagon without an escort. Earlier, the press corps of the department was granted unaccompanied access to most of the building.

"This policy acts as a preliminary restriction on publication, which is considered the most serious violation of the First Amendment," said Seth Stern of the Freedom of the Press Foundation.

In his opinion, the government cannot prohibit the publication of socially significant information, hiding behind its secrecy and threats to national security.

The Guardian newspaper reported on September 14 that Americans who left offensive comments about the murder of public figure Charlie Kirk were being fired from their jobs in the United States. According to the newspaper, teachers, firefighters, journalists, politicians and even a Secret Service employee have been dismissed, suspended or reprimanded in recent days.
