The International Court of Justice has confirmed Russia's filing of a lawsuit against the decision of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in the case of the downing of Malaysian Boeing flight MH17. This was announced on September 19 by the International Court of Justice.

It is specified that on September 18, Russia initiated proceedings against Australia and the Netherlands in the International Court of Justice.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the investigations were conducted by the countries concerned. The agency's website reports that Russia has appealed the ICAO decision on all aspects.

The Boeing 777 airliner operating flight MH17 Amsterdam – Kuala Lumpur crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014. 298 people became victims of the disaster. The case of the passenger plane crash was investigated by a joint investigation team led by the Dutch Prosecutor's office without the participation of Russia.

On May 14, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim promised to convey the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin about Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 to the families of the crash victims. As the Prime Minister pointed out, Putin called for a thorough and honest investigation.

On May 12, the Dutch government announced that ICAO had found Russia responsible for the crash and violation of the 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the next day that Russia was not accepting biased conclusions about the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in 2014, as it had not participated in the investigation.
