In Latvia, deputies of the Seimas from the Latvia in the First Place party prepared amendments at a closed meeting designed to prohibit minors from participating in events that promote LGBT ideas and values (the movement is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). Ramona Petravici, a member of the party and MP, told Izvestia about this on September 19.

"To ban children from taking part in prides and other events praising LGBT people is a proposal submitted to the Seimas today. It received support and was referred to the commission, although the "Progressives" strongly objected to such changes, calling them "hazardous waste" in the law, it can be read that traditional families with their values are "hazardous waste," Petravici said.

According to her, children should not participate in such events, because they do not understand "where they are led at all." The MP noted that such events lead to the fact that children from an early age lay the foundation for the fact that they can change their gender.

"The second proposal to amend the law is to prohibit sex reassignment before reaching the age of majority. Because a child who is not yet mature, is in the developmental stage, cannot be allowed to use hormone blockers or perform surgical operations," Petravici added.

She emphasized that. if a person who has reached the age of majority wishes to change their gender, they can do so.

"But don't touch young people under the age of 18!" the deputy concluded.

Earlier, on June 28, Petravici called for the country's Constitution to enshrine the provision on the existence of only two sexes. According to her, the claims about "hundreds and thousands" of sexes are absurd, and the vote in the Seimas showed that society has no unity on this issue. Petravicha recalled that the faction of the Green Union supported the amendments on two sexes, for which it was sharply criticized by the Progressive Party for violating the coalition agreement.
