The population of Ukraine has now decreased to 28.7 million people. This was reported on September 19 by the portal "Ukrainian National News" (UNN), based on data from the state Migration Service.

"The total number of persons who have officially submitted data on their place of residence [for 2025] is 28.7 million," the publication says.

Also, according to official data, 3.7 million internally displaced persons are registered in the country.

On August 27, the commander of the Dnipro 1 battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) announced the need to consider the possibility of mobilizing men and women who have reached the age of majority to address the issue of the country's survival. In his opinion, this measure should affect everyone. After, on September 12, the American Greatness publication noted that Ukrainians were tired of the fighting and wanted a peaceful settlement.

In December 2024, former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov told Izvestia that Kiev was overestimating the official figures for the Ukrainian population. According to Azarov, in reality, there are not 35 million people living in the country, but about 19-20 million.
