Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, said on September 19 that Russia sees no reason to extend the sanctions regime against Iran.

"The United Kingdom, Germany and France have chronically violated the UN Security Council resolution on the Iranian nuclear program. <...> The logic laid down in the JCPOA assumed the gradual lifting of all restrictions on Iran and, in our firm belief, there is no reason why they should not expire on October 18 this year," he said at a press conference. a meeting of the UN Security Council.

The Russian diplomat noted that the lifting of sanctions against Iran is the only true alternative solution.

On the same day, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said that European countries' calls for the restoration of sanctions against Iran were a strategically wrong decision and a pretext for escalation. Khatibzade noted that such actions by Europe are politically motivated and contrary to international law. The Iranian deputy Foreign minister also added that attempts to restore sanctions would bring international relations to a new level of unpredictability.
