A man and two children died as a result of a Tesla car fire when they were trapped inside a vehicle in western Germany. This was reported on September 8 by the German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten (RN).

A Tesla electric car left the road after trying to overtake another vehicle, causing the car to crash into a tree and catch fire, the newspaper said.

It is specified that there were four people in the electric car: a 43-year-old man and three nine-year-old children. One child managed to get out of the car on his own, he was taken by helicopter to the hospital. All the other passengers of the car were burned alive as a result of the fire.

Fire fighting equipment, emergency services and ambulances were working at the scene. In addition, two Christoph 8 and Christoph Dortmund helicopters were also called to the accident site.

Later, according to the British newspaper Daily Mail, the sliding door handles on the Tesla car could serve as a possible cause of the tragedy – they stop working at the moment of a power outage. The authors stressed that manual opening of the doors is possible only from the inside, which complicates the rescue work of emergency services.

The circumstances of the incident are currently being clarified.

Last year Motor.ru I studied the report with statistics on deaths in accidents from the government database maintained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to the report, fatal accidents involving Tesla electric vehicles in the United States turned out to be twice as many as the national average. The Tesla brand has the highest number of fatal accidents in the country: 5.6 per billion car kilometers. Kia came in second place in the anti-rating with a score of 5.5, followed by Buick (4.8).
