Allowing alcohol to be sold online will negate the restrictions already imposed in Russia, as alcohol will be available online around the clock. Sergei Leonov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, expressed this opinion on Friday, September 19.

The MP stressed that measures to limit the time of alcohol sales are working well now, and if alcohol is allowed to be sold via the Internet, it will be a round-the-clock sale, and access to alcohol will be absolutely open.

"Therefore, this will eliminate all possible restrictions, all those regional laws that have now been adopted and have performed well in some regions," Leonov said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to the parliamentarian, there is no need to allow the sale of alcohol via the Internet.

On September 4, the heads of the Magadan and Amur regions, as well as the Kamchatka Territory and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), announced their intentions to tighten regulations on the sale of alcoholic beverages, RT reports.

Earlier, on June 18, the office of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko told Izvestia that the authorities could allow the purchase of goods with an 18+ restriction on online platforms. It is assumed that the age will be confirmed through a single biometric system (EBS). The mechanism will become a voluntary option for online platforms.

The norm on the online sale of 18+ goods should enter into force on March 1, 2027, the source of Izvestia clarified.

At the same time, the possibility of selling alcohol and tobacco online is not provided, Dmitry Grigorenko's office emphasized. For this, additional changes in the law are needed, the Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT is the operator of the unified biometric system) clarified.

Currently, there is a separate ban on online alcohol sales.

Earlier, on May 11, Roman Chekushov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, said that the introduction of biometrics to check the age of the buyer when selling alcohol would avoid the sale of goods to those who do not have the right to purchase. 360.ru .
