The protracted conflict in the Gaza Strip and mass conscription are putting a strain on the Israeli economy. This was reported by Bloomberg on September 19.

"Due to the escalation of the war in the Gaza Strip and the absence of any signs of a cease-fire, Israel's economy and business are preparing for further tension," the article says.

According to the newspaper, up to 130,000 reservists will be mobilized for Israel's latest offensive in Gaza, which will involve about 3% of the country's workforce. At the same time, exporters, including the country's most important technology sector, are concerned that the Israeli side may become a pariah, as footage of the destruction in Gaza causes outrage around the world.

"Israel's $580 billion economy grew last year [2024] at the slowest pace in the last two decades, and output remains below pre-war levels, adjusted for inflation. The state budget deficit has increased dramatically," the article says.

It is noted that for small and medium-sized companies, which account for about 60% of the Israeli workforce, the shortage of employees has become "a particularly serious challenge."

On September 16, Israeli forces launched an offensive on Gaza to occupy the city, using robots with explosives. At least 37 strikes were carried out on the territory, which killed more than 60 people. Shortly after, the country's Defense Ministry noted that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would launch attacks on Gaza until it defeated Hamas and freed the hostages. At the same time, the UN Commission of Inquiry into the events in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel recognized Tel Aviv's actions in the Gaza Strip as genocide.
