Fico's bodyguards testified in court in the assassination case
The court heard testimony from the bodyguards of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who were present at the time of the assassination attempt on the politician in May 2024. This was reported on September 19 by the Slovak newspaper Pravda.
"Three security guards of Prime Minister Robert Fico testified in court, all of them (sounded. — Ed.) almost identical. After lunch, the head of the local television station, who recorded the attempt on her camera, is scheduled to speak in court," the newspaper said.
According to one of the bodyguards, the shot occurred after he and the Prime Minister of Slovakia went towards the barriers. He added that he found himself confused along with his colleagues. The bodyguard did not name specific security procedures for tactical reasons, the newspaper writes.
The attempt on Fico's life was carried out on May 15, 2024, following a cabinet meeting. When the prime minister came out to the audience who greeted him, several shots were fired. Fico suffered an abdominal hemorrhage due to his injuries. The operation took almost four hours, after which the Prime Minister was put into an artificial coma, and his condition stabilized the next day. After the attempt on his life, Fico underwent three surgical operations.
The shooter turned out to be a 71-year-old man named Juraj Centula from the city of Levice, who was taken into custody on May 18. After that, on October 28, Fico reported that there had been a second attempt on his life at a public event. He stated that a man with a loaded pistol, who was trying to get to the event, was detained by law enforcement officers.
