Ex-Deputy Defense Minister Popov was transferred to a prison hospital
Pavel Popov, the former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, was transferred from the capital's medical institution to the hospital at the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center. His lawyer Denis Sagach informed Izvestia about this on September 19.
"Popov was transferred back to the prison hospital despite his serious health condition," he said.
The case of the former deputy minister has 56 volumes. According to the lawyer, Popov has almost completed familiarization with them.
On August 20, it was reported that the investigative actions in the Popov case had been completed. He is charged under five articles, including "Receiving a bribe", "Fraud", "Illegal possession of weapons", "Official forgery" and "Abuse of official authority" (part 6 of art. 290, part 4 of art. 159, part 2 of art. 292, paragraphs "c", "e" h. 3 of Article 286 and Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Popov was detained on August 29, 2024. On the same day, the military court arrested him. According to investigators, in 2021-2024, in charge of the development of the Patriot Park, Popov stole the funds allocated for this purpose. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation also reported that the former deputy defense minister participated in the forced involvement of heads of commercial organizations that had signed a contract with the park for work without paying for it.
During the same period, the defendant received a bribe of more than 45 million rubles from the general director of Bamstroyput OJSC for his patronage during construction work. At the same time, illegally stored firearms and ammunition were found during a search of Popov's home.
