The European Commission (EC) has submitted proposals on the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia. This was announced on September 19 by EC representative Paula Pinho.

"We can confirm today that the commission has approved a new package of sanctions against Russia. We are talking about the 19th package. Chairman Mrs. von der Leyen will make a statement on this topic together with the High Representative [of the EU for Foreign Affairs] Mrs. Kallas to announce this 19th package of sanctions," Pinho said.

Earlier, the newspaper Politico, citing Callas, reported that the EC may put forward an official proposal for a new package of sanctions against Russia on September 19 or 22.

On September 16, von der Leyen announced that the new package of EU sanctions against Russia would affect cryptocurrencies, banks and energy. On September 17, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the sanctions policy had actually harmed the EU itself. On September 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he saw no problem in applying new sanctions against Russia.
