On Saturday, September 20, the international song contest "Intervision" will be held in Moscow. Artists from 23 countries, including Russia, Belarus, China, the USA, Kazakhstan, Cuba, the UAE and others, will perform at the Live Arena. The winner will be determined by the members of the International Professional Jury. Read about how the voting will take place and what requirements are put forward for the contest songs in the Izvestia article.
How is the jury voting at Intervision in 2025?
There will be no audience vote at Intervision 2025 - the winner will be chosen by an international professional jury, which includes well—known cultural and artistic figures from each participating country.
According to Yuri Aksyuta, chief producer of Channel One's music and entertainment programs and co-producer of Intervision, the voting will take place as follows: the jury members will give the participants points from one to 23. The main prize will go to the artist whose number gets the most points from all the judges. At the same time, you cannot vote for your country.
The winner will be announced by the speaker of the International Professional Jury. The voting results will be announced after all the participants' numbers have been completed. They will also be published on the official website of the contest.
Requirements for songs to participate in the Intervision in 2025
Strict requirements are imposed on the songs for "Intervision". According to the Contest Regulations, participants can submit a song written specifically for Intervision or one of their hits from previous years. Each composition should be popular by the time of the show and correspond to the main values of the competition — to reflect the unique culture of the participating country, promote interethnic dialogue, and also touch upon universal and family values.
There are other requirements as well:
- If an existing song has been selected for the contest, its release must take place no later than 2024.;
- The song should be written in the genre of popular music, while the inclusion of ethnic and folklore inserts and samples is welcome.;
- the duration of the composition is not less than 2 minutes and not more than 3 minutes;
- You can perform the contest song in any language of the world.
As noted in the "Regulations", these criteria will not affect the evaluation of the participant's performance by an international Professional jury. The voting rules are set out in a separate regulation, which is available only to the organizers of the contest and the judges.
How has the format of Intervision 2025 changed compared to previous years?
Intervision 2025 is a competition in a modern format. In a sense, it inherits the traditions of its predecessors, but at the same time offers a number of new solutions.
The previous competition was "Five stars. Intervision" took place in 2008 on the stage of the Festivalny Concert Hall in Sochi. It was attended by artists from 11 former Soviet republics: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Each contestant had to perform three compositions: original, retro-style and a worldwide hit. The winner was determined by the audience via SMS voting.
The main prize was taken by the representative of Tajikistan Takhmina Niyazova. The next contest was supposed to be held in her country, but at first the event was postponed and then canceled.
Compared to previous years, Intervision 2025 has significantly expanded its geography - artists from all over the world will take part in the competition. The contestants will present only one song, but the audience will not be bored, because in addition to the main program, they will see a parade of cultures, performances by special guests and an international headliner. Video clips will also be shown between the acts, in which the artists will talk about their countries.
The method of determining the winner is also different. In 2025, the organizers of Intervision decided to abandon the spectator voting in order to avoid vote rigging. Instead, the participants' performances will be evaluated by members of an international Professional jury.
Intervision is a competition with a rich history. It was first held in 1965 in Prague, although then it was called the Golden Key. Artists from six countries took part in it: the USSR, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, the GDR and Yugoslavia. The first winner was Czechoslovak singer Karel Gott, who later received the title of "king of Czech pop music."
Then in the 1970s, the competition was held in Sopot, Poland, and was part of the annual International Song Festival. In 1977, Intervision became an independent competition.
Every year, its audience and geography grew — representatives of not only socialist, but also Western countries appeared on the stage: Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, etc. The songs performed by the participants often became international hits. However, after the collapse of the socialist bloc in 1993, the competition ceased to exist.
Earlier, Izvestia was told who is a member of the International Professional Jury of Intervision.
