The Russian Gymnastics Federation has banned bright makeup for novice athletes

The Russian Gymnastics Federation (FGR) has approved new requirements for gymnasts of the I – III youth sports categories, according to which they will not be allowed to perform at rhythmic gymnastics tournaments with bright makeup on their faces and in rhinestone-embroidered swimsuits. This was announced on September 19 in the press service of the Federal State Duma.

"The main purpose of these standards is to emphasize the athletic nature of the competition and to preserve the age—appropriate appearance of young athletes. Rhythmic gymnastics should shape the taste, aesthetics of movement and discipline, and not push children towards adult attributes," the FGR told TASS.

The press service added that special attention is paid to the social side of the issue. According to them, the ban on the use of expensive decorations will reduce the financial burden on families and make rhythmic gymnastics more accessible to every child.

Gymnasts aged from six to seven years old, II — up to eight years old, I — up to nine years old compete in competitions of the III youth category. The requirements will come into force on January 1, 2026. If the rules are not followed, the violators' exercises will not be evaluated.

According to the new requirements, crystals, rhinestones, sequins, beads, beads, pearls, rhinestone ribbons, chains, and feathers are not allowed for decorating swimsuits (jumpsuits) of young gymnasts. At the same time, it is allowed to use fabrics of any color and texture, fabrics with glitter, with a gradient, decoration with appliques, embroidery, the agency clarifies.

The requirements for the appearance of athletes are as follows: hairstyles should be neat and compact, and it is not allowed to use rhinestones and feathers. Make-up is allowed in natural, neutral tones, theatrical makeup, false eyelashes, and bright lipstick are prohibited. The use of self-tanning is allowed, but is not recommended.

On August 23, the Cup of the strongest athletes in Rhythmic Gymnastics ended in Moscow. "Female artists"-juniors and seniors - fought for places on the podium.
