Members of the US Senate from the Democratic Party intend to introduce a resolution recognizing Palestine as a sovereign state. This was reported on September 18 by the Arab News newspaper.

"A group of Democratic senators in the United States has submitted a resolution to force the White House to recognize the Palestinian state," the publication says.

It is noted that, according to the resolution, in order to recognize Palestine, it is necessary to demilitarize it and release the hostages.

The law appeared on the eve of the UN General Assembly (GA), where the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will be discussed.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the United States had again vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on a cease-fire in Gaza. All other states supported the document, including the permanent members — Russia, China, Great Britain and France.

Russia's permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, said it was impossible to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip unless the United States changed its position on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He also noted that "a strike on Doha would invalidate any claims about Israel's readiness for a diplomatic solution to the conflict."
