Andrey Tumanov, chairman of the Moscow Horticultural Union NGO, explained why manure should not be used as fertilizer.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, September 18, he noted that fruit trees need to be fertilized in different ways, based on the variety of culture.

The expert explained that manure has not been used for fertilizer for a long time: it is difficult to get it, besides it contains a lot of weeds and pathogenic bacteria. According to him, it can only be used to lay compost, but it should not be applied directly to the soil.

He also recommended studying plant varieties in advance in order to choose the right ways to fertilize them and not cause harm. As an example, Tumanov cited pears, noting that they come in different types — oily and soft or otherwise, and here not only diligence is important, but also knowledge. Otherwise, he stressed, the efforts may be in vain, and only pests or unscrupulous sellers will benefit. In addition, the expert advised purchasing seeds and fertilizers exclusively from professional nurseries.
