US President Donald Trump said that the British leadership supported the proposal to abandon the purchase of Russian oil by the countries of the European Union (EU). This was reported on September 18 by the Reuters news agency.
"Keir Starmer agrees that Europe should stop buying Russian oil," Trump said.
The meeting between Trump and Starmer took place as part of the American leader's state visit to London.
On September 15, Trump declared the European Union (EU) sanctions ineffective in the conditions under which the member states of the alliance buy Russian oil.
On September 16, the media reported that Japanese Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato rejected Washington's proposal to impose increased duties on Russian oil imports for China and India. On the same day, Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs Janos Boca said that Hungary would not abandon Russian oil supplies due to the lack of alternatives.
