Alexander Ovechkin, the Russian striker and captain of the American hockey club Washington Capitals, was injured. This was announced on September 18 by journalist Tariq El-Bashir on the social network X (ex. Twitter) with a link to the National Hockey League (NHL) club.

It is clarified that the hockey player left training at the team's training camp due to a "lower body injury."

On this day, the Washington Capitals began training in preparation for the new NHL season, which will begin on October 7.

A day earlier, Russian hockey player Alexander Ovechkin celebrated his 40th birthday with his family. The athlete has broken many records in the course of his career, the most important one was set this spring. On April 18, Ovechkin scored the 897th goal of his career. Thus, he updated the record for goals in regular NHL matches. On August 17, he entered the Russian Book of Records as the best sniper in the history of the regular league championships.
