Russia will not ignore Japan's sanctions. This was announced at a briefing on September 18 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"Japan's next unfriendly actions will not go unanswered, but our response will be thoughtful and based on national interests. We will continue to take adequate countermeasures, including those of an asymmetric nature," Zakharova said.

She stressed that Tokyo's policy makes it difficult to develop bilateral relations.

Earlier, on September 12, the Japanese Ministries of Economy and Justice announced that the country was imposing sanctions against 52 organizations and 10 individuals from Russia, as well as against three organizations from Belarus "in connection with the situation in Ukraine." The document notes that restrictions on payments and capital transactions are provided for these organizations. Special permission from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be required for their implementation.
