- Lavrov announced the desire of the United States to remove the topic of Ukraine in order to normalize relations with the Russian Federation.
On September 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the administration of US President Donald Trump is seeking to remove the artificially created topic of Ukraine from the agenda by the former American authorities in order to remove obstacles to the normalization of economic and other relations with Russia.
"Removing obstacles to normal economic, technological and other relations and cooperation will also be difficult, because the United States has a very peculiar approach to how to solve economic issues now," the minister said, the text of the interview is published on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition, Lavrov stressed that the Ukrainian conflict was artificially created by the administration of former US President Joe Biden.
On September 9, U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Matthew Whitaker announced that a peace agreement to resolve the Ukrainian crisis may include a clause on the protection of parishes belonging to the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), as well as Russian-speaking Ukrainians. According to him, at the moment there are "certain limits" to the future agreement.
Later, on August 24, Lavrov said that in order to reach an agreement on guarantees of Ukraine's security after the end of the conflict, Western countries must take into account Russia's basic interests. The minister added that Russia had launched a special military operation in order to protect Russian-speaking people from the "openly Nazi" regime in Kiev.
