By calling on European countries to abandon Russian oil, American leader Donald Trump is acting only in the interests of the United States. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, answering a question from Izvestia.

"When President Trump came to power, he did not promise to make Europe rich, did not promise to make Europe great, did not promise to return greatness, prosperity, wealth to Europe. He was saying all this in the context of his country, the United States. Therefore, he will use every opportunity to throw the competitor away in this competitive race," she explained.

Zakharova clarified that Washington would expand oil exports to the EU and at the same time weaken the European industry, contributing to the relocation of production to the United States.

"Why is Brussels reacting this way? So there are probably American henchmen standing there, those who fill their pockets. Like [European Commission President] Ursula von der Leyen, who absolutely doesn't care what happens to the EU countries. It serves the interests of exactly the wrong people who delegated it," said the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She stressed that Russia will continue to pursue an independent foreign policy agenda and develop cooperation with friendly countries, using this situation to its advantage.

"Yes, not everyone can do this, but we have all the opportunities and we have taken advantage of them," Zakharova concluded.
