Pashinyan explained the reason for the elimination of the image of Ararat from stamps
The decision of the Armenian government to remove the image of Mount Ararat from the stamps of the country's visas has nothing to do with any demands of the Turkish authorities and the recent visit to Yerevan by the country's special representative Serdar Kilic. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this at a briefing on September 18.
He noted that such an issue was not discussed and could not be discussed during the negotiations between the representatives of the two countries.
"Now they are talking about Turkey's demand or a threatened solution. But I said that legitimacy is a key factor in our strategy. We ourselves must recognize and recognize the territorial integrity of Armenia, its sovereignty, with its internationally recognized territory and borders," the Sputnik Armenia agency quoted Pashinyan as saying.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the decision to remove the image of Mount Ararat from the stamps is aimed at strengthening the statehood, sovereignty and security of the country.
Portal News.am On September 14, he announced that according to the decision of the Armenian government, from November 1, 2025, the image of Mount Ararat will no longer be present on border stamps when entering and leaving the country. Despite the fact that Mount Ararat is located on the territory of modern Turkey, it is the main national symbol of Armenia and is considered the sacred mountain of the Armenians.
Prior to that, on September 7, NTV reported that Turkey and Armenia intend to hold a meeting between the delegations on the opening of borders between the countries and the settlement of political relations.
