Dangerous asteroid 2025 FA22 passed by Earth

Asteroid 2025 FA22, which occupied the first place in the list of dangerous objects at the beginning of the year, passed the mime of the Earth and the Moon. This was announced on September 18 by the press service of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS.

"Asteroid 2025 FA22, measuring 130 by 290 m, which is on the list of one of the most potentially dangerous bodies for the planet, safely passed by the Earth and the Moon today at 10:41 Moscow time," the laboratory wrote on its Telegram channel.

It is noted that the asteroid was discovered by scientists in March of this year. In addition, the RAS added that at the moment the brightness of the object in the sky is increasing and will reach a maximum on September 20-21.

"The next return of the stone to Earth will take place in 11 years— on August 20, 2036, but at a much, 25 times greater distance than now," the laboratory said.

Also, dangerous approaches of the asteroid to the planet are expected in 2089 and 2173.

Earlier, on September 3, it was reported that an asteroid the size of the Chelyabinsk meteorite approached the Earth at a minimum distance. The object was first spotted two weeks ago, on August 18, and until that moment, scientists had not known anything about it. According to experts, the asteroid is comparable in size to the Chelyabinsk meteorite that fell on February 15, 2013.
