In autumn, the body is especially sensitive to a deficiency of trace elements, including calcium and magnesium. Their deficiency affects the work of the nervous system and muscles, causing fatigue, insomnia, seizures and decreased concentration. Vera Seryozhina, an expert at the LabQuest medical company, explained to Izvestia on September 20 why it is important to monitor these indicators.

"Seasonal perestroika during the transition from one season to another is a common phenomenon, especially noticeable when summer changes to autumn and spring to summer. During the off-season, sleep often worsens, irritability increases, performance and concentration decrease; many people note increased anxiety and muscle spasms, including nocturnal cramps in the calf muscles. Such symptoms are usually ignored, but they may indicate an imbalance of key trace elements, primarily calcium and magnesium," the specialist said.

She clarified that calcium is involved in a variety of processes: it is necessary for muscle cells for normal contractions, is responsible for the strength of bones and tooth enamel, affects the condition of hair, participates in blood clotting and supports heart function. Magnesium is also important for the brain, heart, and blood vessels: its deficiency (and in some cases excess) can be manifested by decreased mood, insomnia, seizures, blood pressure disorders, and arrhythmias.

The symptoms of calcium and magnesium deficiency overlap at many points, but these elements have an interconnected effect: calcium increases blood viscosity, and magnesium reduces it, helping the heart; together they balance the excitation and inhibition of the nervous system.

"In the off—season, it is useful to support the body through nutrition or, if necessary, dietary supplements. Calcium—rich foods such as cheeses, sea fish, eggs, seeds such as chia, nuts, and cottage cheese; a piece of cheese before bedtime can actually help you fall asleep easier. Magnesium is found in bran, dried herbs and spices, seeds, especially pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds; whole grains and legumes are also good," Seryozhina emphasized.

However, according to the expert, nutrition cannot always compensate for the chronic deficiency of these trace elements. In such cases, dietary supplements may be useful, especially in chelated forms of calcium and magnesium, which are better absorbed by the body. However, it is important to remember that an overdose of these elements can lead to serious consequences.

The doctor stated that for a safe correction of calcium and magnesium deficiency, it is important to consult a specialist and take blood tests. In addition, it is important to monitor the level of these trace elements during pregnancy, as their deficiency can lead to complications, including eclampsia.

On September 17, Alexander Konkov, head of the Department of Therapy with a course in Pharmacology and Pharmacy at ROSBIOTECH University, said that the benefits of fish oil cannot be denied: it is a source of a number of vitamins and amino acids that help strengthen the immune system. This element is rich in vitamins A, D and E, which positively affect the functioning of the human body's immune system, protecting it from infections and other diseases.
