The expert told about the ideal daytime sleep
Daytime sleep may be necessary for an adult to improve performance and overall well-being. About this on September 18, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by somnologist, Candidate of medical Sciences, psychiatrist Elena Kolesnichenko.
The doctor said that daytime sleep reduces stress levels, improves attention, memory and immunity.
"Daytime sleep <...> can improve attention and reduce drowsiness after a night of sleep deprivation, but it will not replace a full night's sleep. <...> The human body needs regular, full—fledged night's sleep of sufficient duration," Kolesnichenko said.
In her opinion, the optimal time for sleeping is before 15:00, and the duration is 10-20 minutes. After 15:00, the doctor does not recommend taking a nap, as there is a high probability of a problem with falling asleep in the evening.
"The phenomenon in which a person feels overwhelmed and disoriented after a nap is called "sleep inertia." This means that a person who has slept for more than 20-30 minutes has already managed to enter a deep sleep," the expert explained.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that afternoon fatigue is a natural part of the body's biological rhythms. This feeling of drowsiness and difficulty in thinking often leads to a person starting to look for ways to quickly regain their energy. One of the most common solutions is fast and habitual caffeine, but research shows that the cause of this fatigue goes much deeper than just eating or lack of sleep.
