Inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) were informed about the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on a warehouse with diesel fuel. This was announced on September 18 by Evgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at ZAES.

"Information about the attack and its potential consequences was immediately brought to the attention of experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency stationed at the station. We have established constant contact with them, we provide them with all the necessary information for an objective assessment of the situation," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

It is noted that diesel fuel reserves at the nuclear power plant are important for providing backup power supply to the cooling systems of nuclear reactors. It is emphasized that their destruction can lead to catastrophic consequences.

Earlier, on September 17, Yashina reported on the daily shelling of the Zaporizhia NPP by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. So, on September 16, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an attack in the area of the location of fuel depots at the nuclear power plant. As a result of the shelling, dry vegetation caught fire. The distance from the place of ignition to the place of storage of diesel fuel was about 400 m. The ZAES press service reported that there is no threat to the main infrastructure facilities.
