On September 17, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko confirmed that opposition leader Mikalai Statkevich refused to leave Belarus.

"The man [Statkevich] is already running out. <...> The guys asked: "Do you want to go to Belarus? You're going to jail." He says, "I'm going to jail." Okay, they took him away. You can't leave him. He's our man after all. A citizen, or rather, ours. They took him to Belarus," Lukashenko said, and his statements were broadcast on the Telegram channel of the presidential press service, Pool One.
