About 60% of French citizens believe that there are too many immigrants living in the country at the moment. This result was shown by a survey conducted by the research company Elabe, published on Wednesday, September 17th.

"Six out of 10 French people believe that there are too many immigrants in France, and this figure has remained stable over the past year," the publication says.

In addition, many respondents support the petition of former French Minister of Culture Philippe de Villiers, in which the politician demanded a referendum on immigration.

"53% of French people support this petition, including 28% of those who strongly support it and 25% of those who are inclined to support it," the survey results showed.

Regarding migration policy, more than half of the French (52%) supported the idea that society needs immigrants, but their arrival should be regulated, for example, by setting quotas for sought-after professions. 36% of respondents supported strict restrictions on immigration, while 10% supported a more welcoming migration policy.

On July 21, Le Figaro reported, citing an IFOP/JDD poll, that French President Emmanuel Macron and French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou form the most unpopular tandem in the country. It is noted that only 19% of French people are satisfied with the president's work, while the approval rating of the country's prime minister was 18%. Thus, the level of cumulative support for this political pair was 37%.

Prior to that, on July 11, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that Macron was the main beneficiary of the migration crisis in the United Kingdom.
