The Times reported on Britain's plans to recognize Palestine after Trump's visit
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is ready to officially announce the recognition of Palestine as a state immediately after the end of the visit of US President Donald Trump. This was reported on September 17 by The Times newspaper.
London's decision contradicts Washington's position.
"The discussion on recognizing Palestine is under pressure like never before," Starmer said, noting that Israel has not taken steps towards a cease—fire and a two-state solution.
The United States, on the contrary, believes that such a step "will serve as a reward for the radical Palestinian movement Hamas" and will complicate negotiations.
"In fact, it encourages these groups," said Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Earlier, on September 16, it was reported that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will address the opening of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York with a call to recognize Palestine. The representative of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry noted that this "will serve as an opportunity for more countries to recognize Palestine as a state."
